OOVAR show at Main Library through Nov. 29

Please visit the OOVAR show (Ohio Online Visual Artist Registry) beginning Oct. 13th and ending Nov. 29, with a reception on Saturday, November 15th at 4pm. The reception is catered and the winners of the Jurors Choice and the Peoples Choice will be presented with awards. (Pictured: Juror's Choice Award Winner, "Heavenly Dreaming" by artist Juliette Montague.)

The Columbus Metropolitan Library and the Ohio Arts Council collaborated to create the Ohio Online Visual Artist Registry to present arts opportunities to artists in Ohio. The OOVAR Show is a celebration of this partnership. The artwork will be displayed at The Columbus Metropolitan Main Library in the Humanities & Fine Arts Division from October 13-November 29, 2008. An award of $1000 will be given for Juror's Choice. An award of $500 will be presented for People's Choice. People's Choice Award ballots will be accepted through November 8. The cash awards are provided by Friends of the Library.

OOVAR, please vote

A plea, prayer, request and favor. The Columbus Metropolitan Library (Main Branch) is hosting their third annual Ohio Online Visual Artist Regisry's exhibition.

http://www.ohioonlinearts.org/

I have one piece, titled "Dunce", that has been accepted and I wish to promote that fact (unashamedly). The library has a people's choice category in which visitor's to the main library can vote for their favorite piece. In this election year we all can make an impact. I invite you to pass this along to anyone who may remember me from Columbus or anyone who wants to see a great annual juried exhibition in a very public space.

The 3rd Annual Ohio Online Registry Juried Show will take place October 13 through November 29, 2008 at the Columbus Metropolitan Library's Main Branch at 96 S. Grant.

I do feel a bit guilty for asking for votes but it is in the spirit of a historical election year and I am not stooping to using Robocalls. Please stop by the library's main branch and vote for an artist and their work. If you can't make up your mind I hope that you make "Dunce" your write-in canidate.

Third Annual Online Visual Artist Registry Juried Art Show

I will have one piece "Dunce" in the 3rd annual Online Visual Artist Registry Juried Art Show at the Columbus Main Library's Carnegie Gallery. I've copied the press release below.

"The Third Annual Online Visual Artist Registry Juried Art Show will feature original works of art by Ohio artists. Work will be selected through a blind jury process of distinguished art professionals, including professional juror, Ron Kroutel, an Athens area artist who won the juror’s choice award during the 2007 OOVAR exhibition.

The artwork will be displayed at The Columbus Metropolitan Main Library in the Carnegie Gallery from October 13-November 29, 2008. An award of $1000 will be given for Juror’s Choice. An award of $500 will be presented for People’s Choice. People’s Choice Award ballots will be accepted through November 8. The cash awards are provided by Friends of the Library."

book of alternative photographic processes

Another late notice. Last February (2008), Christopher James published the second edition of his landmark, much loved Book of Alternative Photographic Processes.

Go to amazon's site to see a description of the book. It wouldn't be far off the mark to call this the bible for alternative process photography. In expanded this edition over the first one, he included my photo of Dr. Frangst in his photogram labcoat in between a discussion of John Herschel and Anna Atkins on page 151.

MACA

Better late than never.

I was part of a one night event at Spanish tapas style restaurant in Powell, Ohio, MACA.

The gallery space is an old Mercantile exchange. The restaurant is in the back. Delicious food, wine abounding with my two favorite grapes Garnache and Tempranillo.

there were five of us, Sarah Fairchild, Kathryn Nova Williams, Andrew Ball, Amanda Tirey and me, Frances Schanberger. Really Francis Schanberger but MACA's website has the feminine spelling for my name. That makes three, the Dayton Art Institute, Texas Photographic Society and Maca as making me a Miss.

I hung the Diana camera seascapes H, (was) a seawall, Anchor, Labyrinth, J, Starling, Cage, Touch (sand drawing) and two others.

not pretty but functional...the new website

it's been literally years since I had an up to date and functioning website. I've been torn between doing something beautiful or doing something functional but ugly. I gave into the latter. It works. Visitors will have an idea of what I've been working on and hopefully old friends and acquaintances can find me.

for at least the next 24 hours the website will be accessed by going to:

http://sites.google.com/site/frangst/

after a day or so and if I didn't make any mistakes the site will be found at my domain name:

pokeberries

New models arriving this autumn like at the car dealers but prettier. Pokeberries. I've made an early van dyke brown attempt at this but I think the digital negative needs a lot of work. Too much is lost in the translation. I will post it once I get it right. Lot's of time this weekend for studio since school is under way.

two more group shows

The new work is being well received. "Curl" has been excepted into the Texas Photographic Society's TPS 17 : TNC, juried by Lisa Sutcliffe, which will travel around Texas, New York and California for one year. It opens in Austin at the Dougherty Art Center on September 4th.

"Seeds" received an honorable mention in a group show of alternative process photography curated by Christopher James at Tilt gallery in Phoenix, Arizona. The closing reception is Friday, Sept 19th 6 to 10pm. Photography Re-imagined is currently on display.
