maybe number 102?

"Apple" and "Don't Take This Personally" will both be included in the Ohio Art League's Annual Fall Juried exhibition. The juror this year is Liz Maugans,  co-founder and Managing Director of Zygote Press, Inc. The exhibition is located at Schnormeier Gallery, 221 South Main Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050 and will run from November 18, 2011 - January 7, 2012. The gallery is located on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University.  An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, December 2, 6 - 9 p.m.

Maybe this is number 102?. The Ohio Art League began their juried exhibitions around 1910 and recently had their 100th anniversary Fall Juried exhibition in 2009.

OAL's 100th Anniversary Spring Juried Exhibition

Last Thursday was the opening for the Ohio Art League's 100th Annual Spring Juried Exhibition, juried by Todd Slaughter, which is on view now through June 24th.

There are pictures from the opening which can be found on Flickr by going to the following link http://www.flickr.com/photos/55867923@N02/5719069849/in/set-72157626594581503. Today, the Columbus Dispatch published Christopher Yates' review of the exhibition which can be also be found online at http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/arts/stories/2011/05/15/league-turns-100-with-style.html?sid=101.

Off to UDF to pick up a copy of the Dispatch.

registering an image

We had a brief lull in the rain here in southwest Ohio and I put the pokeberry print (Clem Wolfham) out for a little more exposure.

But wait, there's more.

I also put out one of the purple petal Anthotypes, actually looking like cornflower blue, using a positive transparency which is detail of a bathrobe with the name Mel Miller. I had it out in mixed lighting conditions, mostly cloudy, for about 3 hours.

I brought them back in after about 2 1/2 hours (I had to teach and early evening class) opened the split back printing frame and saw that it already had registered an image.

IT'S WORKING!

I'll post a couple of images later tonight.

And yes, I spent about an hour picking more purple flowers out of fear they won't be around much longer.

Tomorrow I am installing the Flowers from a Cigar Tree print in Columbus which is part of the Ohio Art League's 100th anniversary Spring Juried Exhibition. The work to be shown in the Carnegie Gallery of the Columbus Metropolitan Library (main branch) was selected by OSU Sculpture professor Todd Slaughter.

I do think tomorrow will be a Dirty Franks kind of day. Anyone want to meet up for a hotdog?

[insert winking emoticon here]

In time for your springtime sneezing and wheezing comes word from the O.C. that Forces of Nature is on display.

Here's a link to the press release from the Orange Coast College website. The exhibition runs concurrently with the showing of the platinum printing of Stan Klimek. The PR smacks of precious metal favoritism [insert winking emoticon here].

Closer to home, the link to the Christopher Yates review in the Columbus Dispatch of the Naturalists, curated by Bridgette Bogle, can be located here.

Write Up the Write Ups

To be blunt, this weblog is useful for me to keep track of exhibitions and, when they occur, reviews of the exhibitions in which I show work. This is one of those types of entries.

Melissa Starker reviewed "the Naturalists" at the Ohio Art League gallery in last Thursday's edition of the Columbus Alive.

Here's the link to the article on line: http://www.columbusalive.com/live/content/features/stories/2011/03/10/exhibit-the-naturalists-at-ohio-art-league.html?sid=108#

Look in tomorrow's edition of the Columbus Dispatch for Christopher Yates' review of the exhibition.

the price one pays...

Hind sight is twenty-twenty.

Lesson: Never leave an anthotype out if you are going to be 70 miles away unable to rescue it.

The large anthotype may have been a casualty of the the late evening rainstorm. I put it out this morning since we've been starved for direct sun for a week and finally it came out in the a.m. It was sunny when we drove out around 2 pm heading to Columbus to install "The Naturalists". We didn't get home until about an hour ago and by that time a couple of showers had moved through the area. It's back in the garage "drying out".

The price one pays for a little artistic multi tasking. Matting work for the O.C. Measuring and hanging work in Columbus. Trying to get the anthotype to fade.

Pics of the installed Naturalists exhhibition in a couple of days. I still have to pack work for Orange Coast College.
