how to float an image in a frame

I was asked for images of how I attach a print to a backing board when I want to float the image in a frame. I have uploaded images to flickr that show the steps I take to frame the small gingko prints in the gingko grid.

I use the same type of paper that I made the print on to make the T's. I used to use gummed linen tape to attach them but have switched to self-adhesive linen hinging tape.

Ohio Art League 99th Annual Spring Juried Exhibition

Now that it is almost Spring and my allergies will soon respond to that TBA (think Arrested Development) tree pollen, the 99th Annual Ohio Art League Spring Juried Exhibition continues at Fort Hayes Shot Tower gallery. This year's edition features the vandyke brown print "Twelve" from my Forces of Nature series. The exhibition was juried by Ron Pizzuti and will be on display from March 2 to April 27.


The Fort Hayes Shot Tower gallery is open MON-FRI 9am - 4pm but call ahead, 614-365-6681, to confirm. Find the Shot Tower gallery at 546 Jack Gibbs Boulevard Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Please note that Fort Hayes will be closed for spring break: April 2 - 11.

Virtual Reception at University of La Verne Exhibition "Forces of Nature"

With much trepidation I participated in a virtual reception on February 4th at the University of La Verne's Irene Carlson gallery. It wasn't so bad. That's my head on the lap top screen in the photograph. I think I'm ready for Chatroulette!

Interior / Exterior

I forgot to post this on my blog. Bridgette Bogle and I were part of Dayton Visual Art Center's Juried Member Show Interior / Exterior juried by Pamela DeCoker. Jane Black has plans to expand / loan / alter this exhibition for the Dublin Arts Council's exhibition space in 2010.

January Exhibitions

Two opportunities to see the vandyke brown prints from forces of nature in January 2010.

I will have several pieces in the tenth incarnation of Roy G Biv's Tenth Annual Image Ohio. Roy G Biv doesn't have the exhibition dates on their website but once the holidays are over I am sure you will be able to find them listed on http://www.roygbivgallery.org

Opening January 18th and running until February 18th I will be having a solo exhibition of forces of nature in the Irene Carlson Gallery of Photography at the University of La Verne 38 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Here is an early version of the typology grid of gingko leaves I have been working on. The white ground is the major difficulty with this project. I hope to expand this to at least 16 by the time I install at the Rosewood Art Center gallery in April.

The order of this set was expertly deduced by my wife Bridgette Bogle and is currently on view at the Marysville Library. Chasper Paw (Gingko I) and Gingko B are also at Link gallery in Dayton, Ohio.

Marysville Public Library debut of FON

With much help from the Ohio Arts Council and Montgomery County's Culture Works, not to mention the love and support from my wife Bridgette Bogle, I have reached a point of finally exhibiting the body of work known as Forces of Nature.

Marysville Public Library will be the debut of a series of images that will travel to Kettering, Ohio's Rosewood Art Center in April and to Sinclair Community College in October of 2010.

There will be about 25 framed images and a grid of 9 Gingko leave Vandyke Browns. I hope you can make it to one of these three venues in the next eleven months. The exhibition at Marysvile opens Dec. 1st and will continue during the month of December.

The Texas Photographic Society's Alternative Processes exhibition continues to travel through Texas and is currently up at the Watson Studio Gallery in Johnson City. Plates-to-Pixels, Body Pulses and OOVAR

The Gingko Photogram Coat is part of Plate-to-Pixels' Body Pulses online exhibition. Their website for this is: http://www.platestopixels.com/bodypulses.htm.

I retrieved the work from Berea and was glad I got a chance to walk through the "Photo-Alternative: The Past as Future""exhibition. I got to meet a couple of the artists, one of who was Mary Rezny who did the lumen print on the Berea Arts Council's website, as well as Rene M Hales the exhibit sponsor.

OOVAR, the Ohio Online Visual Artist Registry, is actually having their 4th annual exhibition at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Suki Kwon and I work in the exhibition.

Less than two weeks left to visit the Berea Arts Council gallery and see some amazing alternative process photography. Lumen print made as a demo for the Visual Art Photography 330 class (alternative photo) using gingko leaves collected outside the new Studio 238 facility at College Park Center.

I like the look of this. Maybe make an inkjet negative and combine with vandyke?

two plus hours south of dayton

Two and three quarter hours south of here one finds the town of Berea. On Friday, the Berea Arts Council will open an exhibition of alternative process photography. The juror for the exhibition Photo Alternative: The Past as Future, Kurt Godhe, will be on hand to discuss the selected work. "Five (Sweetgum)" and " Broken (Gingko Leaf)" are among the work on display.

You know what it all means...Lexington is two and one quarter hours south of here!

It's time for the state fair fine arts exhibition

The Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition opens Tuesday evening, July 28 from 6-8 pm. I have two of the vandyke brown prints on the wall at the Cox Fine Arts Center. The exhibition runs the entire duration of the fair and suffers greatly from the competition with the butter sculptures in the Dairy Expo. Regardless, the exhibition is open to the public from July 29th - August 9th.

Bridgette Bogle and I have work in the Dayton Visual Arts Center's annual member show juried by Sara Pierce. My photograph "Twelve" got an honorable mention. Look for it near the window of the DVAC gallery on Jefferson street.

I don't have a jpeg of the piece but once I photograph it I will upload it to this blog.

"Green", the members show at Dayton Visual Art Center, runs through August 20th.
